35% inpatients in Barcelona are displaced persons
According to a survey carried out by the Jubert Figueras Foundation in 5 hospitals in Barcelona (Hospital Maternoinfantil de la Vall d'Hebron, Hospital Clínic, Institut Guttmann, Hospital de Sant Joan de Déu i Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol) some 35% of inpatients come from towns situated more than 50 km away from Barcelona. For their families, this situation implies important expenses for transport and for the basic activities of everyday life: meals and lodging.
This rate is well above official stats. At present, the existing resources for displaced family caregivers are insufficient to cover the needs of these families.
