We thank you very much for your interest in the Fundació Jubert Figueras Voluntary Work Program. Volunteers play a key role in our mission and we consider them to be a crucial part of our resources. We are calling for volunteers who have spare time, the wish to share it and who are enthusiastic about working with the relatives of patients or with patients themselves.
We are looking for volunteers
The FJF is a non-profit organization that aims to improve the quality of life of low-income families forced to move away from their hometown in order to stand by a relative who, due to a severe disease, is to be hospitalized or to undergo treatment in one of Barcelona’s health center. The FJF offers accommodation to up to 12 or 13 families simultaneously, all of them counting on the support, the counselling and the company of the organization’s staff members (professionals and volunteers).
Volunteers offer a listening ear to care-givers when they need to talk to someone, or go for walks with them; they tutor children with their homework or just play with them, in a few words: they keep these families company during their forced stay in Barcelona as their relatives remain in hospital or under treatment. The join-in process includes the necessary training to carry out these activities.
Volunteers in the administration area help with office tasks at the organization’s headquarters, such as handling phone calls or opening and answering mail, or see to logistic questions and details regarding our different social events organized through the year in order to raise funds and to inform about the situation of displaced families.
All of the volunteers are kindly invited to take part in the events organized by our organization.
VOLUNTEERS PROFILE
Although our volunteers account for a wide range of profiles enriching the human team and improving the quality of work, it is nonetheless true that certain characteristics have proved to be necessary to develop activities with the families and to face the emotional stress of the situation they are going through, namely:
- Capacity for empathy and active listening
- Flexibility and capacity to adapt to the different situations that might come up
- Creativity and enthusiasm.
